Hillcrest Senior Residences
Hillcrest Senior Residences (Hillcrest) was the redevelopment of a vacant former grocery store in Pittsburgh’s Carrick neighborhood into a high-quality, mixed income rental housing designed to meet the needs of seniors by The Community Builders, Inc (TCB). The prominent 1.76 acre site at 2948 Brownsville Road had been vacant for more than 10 years, creating an eyesore along the main commercial corridor serving Carrick and adjacent Brentwood Borough. The site offers visibility and easy walking and transit access to health care, shopping and services. The design and construction meets Passive Housing Certification in order to advance energy efficiency, environmental responsibility, and commitment to neighborhood sustainability goals.
Hillcrest is a new construction, four-story, L-shaped building of 70,689 square feet comprised of 66 apartments, community spaces and indoor and outdoor amenities. TCB engaged community residents, civic associations and elected officials for input into the design and service program. Hillcrest features 54 one-bedroom and 12-two bedroom apartments restricted to households where at least one person is age 62 or over.
